Yesterday, the US Treasury Department sanctioned the second subsidiary of Rosneft, one of the Russia's biggest oil producers. TNK Trading International, a Swiss-based unit of Rosneft, was blacklisted for transporting Venezuelan crude oil. A month before, the US put sanctions on Rosneft Trading SA, another subsidiary of Rosneft, for the same reason. All transactions with both companies should be winded down by May 20.
In times of the dramatically low oil prices and the oil war between Russia and other biggest oil producers, sanctions will cause additional pressure on the Russian oil market and ruble. Also, sanctions may lower Rosneft bond prices especially of those with a close maturity day.
